Watercolor Jellyfish Practice

Watercolor Jellyfish Practice

I have been in the mood for watercolor painting while Stephen and I listen to audio-books in the evening. I am following this watercolor tutorial on painting jellyfish. Its pretty fun. Here’s how it turned out. I did three practices two before work and one after work. I like doing the tentacles better with pen because I’m using water-filled brushes and they are a bit wet and chunky by nature. I’m too lazy to get up and get pens that match the jellies though :P.

I just finished another tutorial by the same person. It is a feather tutorial. I didn’t do as well with that one but, my mantra is create something everyday even if it sucks. So, its okay if it sucks :P. What I had problems with was keeping the paper at the right level of moisture so that the watercolor spread across the feather and had that soft look. I either had it too wet or too dry. In fact, I picked up the painting and paint rolled off of it because it was so puddled. I’ll have to give the feathers another go. Maybe tomorrow. Probably tomorrow.
